Salado TX Real Estate, Salado Area and Community Information

Salado is a small village that is located in Central Texas just south of Waco and north of Austin. It is one of the communities that make up Bell County and is part of the Killeen/Fort Hood/Temple Metro Area. This is a quiet, lovely little community that is perfect for people looking to retire or raise a family.

History of Salado

It was in 1834 when the first European pioneers settled in the area that is known as Salado today. However, they left the area in 1836 due to frequent attacks by Indian tribes. Settlers did not return to the territory until 1843, and by 1852, they had established a handful of small businesses in the community.

It was at this time that they also named their small settlement Salado. Salado was incorporated in 1867 at about the same time that a bridge was constructed across Salado Creek. For many years, the village was a popular stop for cattle drives. While growth in Salado has been slow, today you will find a delightful array of small businesses and lovely homes within the community.
